As much we’d like to think that higher education is a gut decision, the fact is that numbers matter. Here are a few statistics worth keeping in mind:
On Getting In:
17.5% – That’s Oxford’s acceptance rate. For international students, it’s significantly higher. Meanwhile, Harvard and Stanford both have an acceptance rate of around 4.4%.
One – That’s how many letters of recommendation that most UK universities require. Some masters programs may ask for two.
One – You’ll only write one personal statement to apply to up to five programs in the UK. Supplements to the Common App are not a thing.
On Paying For It:
$600 – That’s how much tuition and fees are for many degrees in Germany. You’ll have to pay living expenses, but those are less to what you’d pay in the US.
$32 – Unlike applying in the United States, where colleges nickel and dime students for application fees, you can apply to up to five programs in the UK for $32.
$20,500 – That’s how much graduate students and older undergrads can borrow to go to college per year in the UK. There are also PLUS loans that allow them to borrow up to the full cost of attendance.
Your post-grad salary for a year – Because programs take, on average, a year less than their counterparts in the state, you can get to making degree-level money faster.
On Studying Outside the US:
90% – That’s how much of your time you’ll spend studying your actual degree field. No general education classes here.
1 Euro – The price of some international flights in Europe.
25% – That’s how much more you’ll make over the course of your career for having studied overseas.
On Using Us:
100% – That’s how many of our students over the past two years have gotten into two or more of their top three universities. We’re pretty proud of that one!
